Motorization can be either battery-operated or hard-wired’. The best time to hard-wire is during the new construction or remodel process when walls are exposed.
Battery Operated motorization is actuated by a battery wand in a headrail or a seperate battery pack that attaches to a motor in the headrail of a blind or shade. This DOES require changing of batteries. Sometimes AC transformers can be used in lieu of batteries. It is all dependent on the product and manufacturer.
Different terminology is used in the window covering industry for battery-operated motorization. The most predominant is “Power Rise” with the Hunter Douglas Products. HD can Power-Rise most shade and shading products. On Blinds, the tilt can be battery-operated, but due to the weight of the blinds, the lift cannot. Battery-operated motorization is highly used due to the ease of operation and no requirement to open walls and re-wire by an electrician.
